Kenya is set for a series of showers over the coming days, with the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasting rainfall in key regions including the Highland East, Rift Valley, Western Kenya, and the Lake Victoria basin.

The weather advisory warns residents to expect a mix of sunny spells and wet conditions from Friday through Tuesday.

In its notice released on Friday, November 14, the department said moderate to heavy rains would dominate much of these areas, although some counties may experience brief sunny periods.

In the Highland East, counties expected to see rainfall include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi.

Showers in these counties are expected to start in the late morning, followed by short breaks of sunshine, before another downpour in the afternoon and evening.

A similar trend is predicted in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin, affecting Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu.

Additional counties in these regions include Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, West Pokot, and Elgeyo Marakwet.

While the Highland East is likely to see moderate showers, heavier rainfall with thunderstorms is expected in the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria basin. Kenya Met noted that these downpours will mostly occur in the afternoon and extend into the night.

Light rains are also predicted in South-eastern lowland counties, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and parts of inland Tana River County.

Temperature Forecast

The department also issued a temperature advisory, highlighting cold nights in the Highland East counties. Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Nairobi may experience nighttime temperatures dropping to 5°C.

On the other hand, daytime temperatures are expected to rise to 33°C along the Coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, and coastal Tana River County.

Other counties, including Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, and Kericho, will experience daytime highs of around 30°C.
